Fulbright College’s Jeannie Hulen Receives 2020 Governor’s Arts Award The Arkansas Arts Council has announced the recipients of its 2020 Governor’s Arts Awards, which includes Jeannie Hulen, associate dean of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and professor of ceramics in the School of Art. An Accidental Invention Could Lead to Easier Methods of Screening Dugs and Toxins Jack Freeland, a physics major and Honor College student, and assistant professor Yong Wang have developed a method to study the interactions between DNA and other chemicals more easily, using equipment and techniques readily available in most chemistry and biochemistry labs. Undergraduate English Course Culminates in Frankenstein Poster Fair Last semester, students in “Frankenstein: A Multimedia Cultural History,” a course offered by the Department of English and taught by assistant professor Lissette Lopez Szwydky, Ph.D., exhibited their final projects in a poster fair that delighted visitors with its wide range of topics and scope of creativity. Spotlight On: Hayden McIlroy, A Distinguished Alumnus Deeply Rooted in the History of the U of A and Fayetteville In November, McIlroy was recognized with a Citation of Distinguished Alumni during the annual awards celebration, but he and his family’s history and support of the University of Arkansas and its surrounding community goes back a span of nearly 150 years. FULBRIGHT NEWS More News > First Nine Recipients of U of A Chancellor's Humanities and Performing Arts Grant Named Chancellor Joe Steinmetz announced the formation of the new $1 million seed fund in the fall as a way to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and spark creative activity in faculty-led initiatives in the humanities and performing arts. "Providing seed funding to this incredible first batch of humanities and performing arts grant recipients will increase collaboration and innovation, help tackle pressing issues in creative ways, and enhance our research and discovery mission while providing support to our students, surrounding community, and beyond," Steinmetz said. "These projects are our guiding priorities in action." A total of 39 projects were submitted for consideration - 20 in humanities and 19 in performing arts.
